Well, it has been a month since I was appointed to this church, and I feel it has been good so far. I have enjoyed getting to know people and I have enjoyed worshipping together with you on Sundays.
On that line, we are going to have a Meet and Greet meeting at our church on August 11. This will be a time of fellowship where we can hopefully get to know each other a little better. I am sure you have questions for me, but you can count on me having questions for you. You may have been asked by me about what dreams you have for our church and the answer I get is either that you would like to see some younger people in our church or that the church is still around in 5 years. I know this church has had its share of uncertainty over the last few years, but I want to challenge you all to dream bigger than that. What do you want to see God do in this church? Is it simply to have a nice service on Sunday? What are some things you would like our church to do in the community? What are some ministries you would like our church to offer? The problem with when we dream is we have the tendency to start thinking practical, which limits our dreams and destroys the purpose of dreaming in the first place. If God is the source of your dream, it is not impossible. So start brainstorming and journal your dreams.
If you are unsure if it is a good dream, Tommy Barnett in his book Reaching Your Dreams gives us some criteria we can use to determine if it is a godly dream:
1. It is bigger than you.
2. You can't let it go.
3. You would be willing to give everything for it.
4. It will last forever.
5. It meets a need nobody else has met.
6. It brings glory to God.
So spend some time with God and ask what dreams you should have for our church. But also ask yourself what steps you are willing to take to implement these dreams. Each one of us in this church is important and we all (regardless of age) have something to contribute! I look forward to dreaming with you!
Grace and Peace,
